Local Flavours and aromas
The local gastronomy is characterized by traditional dishes cooked through the chestnut, as is the case of the tasty chestnut soup, and several dishes using the `brigalhó` this ingredient is a tuber of the `inhame` famili, which has an intermediante flavour between the `inhame` and the potato, usually without any accompaniment, was once the predominant food of the lower financial classes. Although it is also possible to be appreciated in other places, the use of the `pimpineleira root` in gastronomy is much more frequent here.
The confectionery of the Curral das Freiras sweets is essentially made of chestnut, where the famous cookies and cakes stand out. The tasting of these sweets is almost mandatory by our visitors. Not discarding also the delicious walnuts cookies and the sweet cherry jam.
With regard to our liqueurs we highlight our chestnut liqueur, as well as our famous “Ginja” that gives it some prestige for its rich flavor and quality. However, there are still other liqueurs made from traditional old recipes such as Eucalyptus and walnut liquor, which is also very popular.
